Frank Schmidt, MAI, SRA

For more than four decades, Mr. Schmidt has been a real estate appraiser and consultant with a practice primarily in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his career as a residential appraiser, earning the coveted SRA designation from the Appraisal Institute in 1989, and the prestigious MAI designation in 2002. In 1995, he partnered with Wayne Prescott to form the Schmidt-Prescott Group, a commercial appraisal firm of which he was president until it’s dissolution in 2017.
During his career, Mr. Schmidt has appraised a wide variety of real estate including residential, commercial, industrial, raw land, and special purpose properties for various property rights. His experience includes litigation support, testifying as an expert witness for both plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. Schmidt’s extensive client list includes attorneys, municipalities, private entities, lenders, and publicly traded companies. Recently he was hired as a diminution in value consultant on PG&E cases involving the destruction of thirty eight homes in the 2010 San Bruno gas-line rupture fires. Mr. Schmidt was also retained by the City of Santa Clara as an expert to assist the city’s task force in the process of setting Parkland Dedication fees.
Mr. Schmidt has served on several professional committees throughout his career, including the International Right-of-Way Association and the Appraisal Institute. He currently serves on the Santa Clara County Assessment Appeals Board, of which he was elected Chairperson in 2017.
